Job Description for Children Ministry Program Director

Service Title:          Children Ministry Program Director

Position Status:      Negotiable (Contract, part-time)

Term of Contract:   6 months open contract

Hours per week:     25 hours (negotiable)

Location:                1490 Birchmount Road, Scarborough, Ontario

Reports to:             Senior Pastor of New Covenant Alliance Church

Oversight to:          Children Ministry Team

Ministry Purpose:

To provide leadership, training and development for Children Ministry workers; nurture and cultivate the spiritual growth of children (age 0 to 12 years old); drive outreach initiatives to reach new children and their families; ensuring alignment with the mission, vision and strategy of New Covenant Alliance Church ministries.

Scope of Work:

Design, implementation and coordination of resources for the following projects:

Children Sunday School and Worship

  • Research and design Sunday School Curriculum for all age groups
  • Review and expand the scope of the current breakfast program to include Bible teaching
  • Lead children worship time
  • Design and oversee online virtual Children’s program during social distancing restriction
  • Gather feedback from teachers and students to continuously improve and revise curriculum
  • Schedule teachers and helpers for each Sunday School class
  • Oversee all classes on Sunday to ensure teacher assignments, lesson contents and classroom order and safety
  • Children’s programming to be provided on a weekly basis


  • Develop outreach initiatives to reach non-church children
  • Coordinate children outreach initiatives

Children Ministry Workers

  • Recruit, coach and coordinate training of teachers and helpers for all Children Ministry activities (e.g. sit-in observation and regular evaluation and support)
  • Maintain “Plan to Protect” policy and other safety protocols


  • Develop a safety protocol for nursery
  • Schedule weekly workers during English and Chinese worships
  • Coordinate and arrange for weekly nursery program

Vacation Bible School (VBS)

  • Recruit, train and oversee Camp Directors and workers; and apply for government grants
  • Working with the Camp Director, plan, promote, and oversee the entire VBS program; in-person at the church or virtual.
  • Elements of the VBS should include but is not limited to:
  1. develop fun and engaging weekly bible study lessons within the theme and structure
  2. confirm guidelines for each of the key roles, including promotion; snacks; registration; field trips, crafts; music; opening and closing assemblies; aftercare etc. and delegate tasks to members of the team.
  3. working together with the camp director, promote the dates for and ensure success of leader/helper training sessions.
  4. ensure all leaders and volunteers adhere to our NCAC child protection policy, fire drill procedures, the official Plan to Protect and provide police background checks for all adult leaders and helpers
  5. regular prayer request communication about VBS to congregations
  6. monitor the budget and complete expense reports
  7. determine the camp capacity for this year based on available staff and group sizes for each class
  8. during the week, oversee all of the activities including incident reporting, troubleshoot any problems pertaining to discipline and safety issues
  9. ensure the smooth operation of the camp on a daily basis and uphold the vision and values of NCAC
  10. regular reporting (including communicate and bring any relevant issues/ concerns) to the attention of the Senior Pastor
  11. initiate contact with camper’s parent or guardian for any behavioural issues and develop a sensitive and supportive solution
  12. organize daily staff meetings/devotions during VBS week
  13. fulfill other responsibilities pertaining to VBS consulted with or assigned by Senior Pastor

Special Events

  • Arrange children program for church activities such as retreats, Christmas celebration, Mission week etc.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

  • Committed follower of Christ with strong conviction of calling by God into ministry, specifically leading children to Christ;
  • Demonstrate sound understanding of Biblical doctrine and practice;
  • Love for children and desire to see their families grow in the Christian faith;
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of church experience (voluntary or on staff) with children;
  • Experience in recruiting, motivating, and equipping volunteer leaders to minister to children and their families;
  • Minimum post-secondary undergraduate diploma or degree from an accredited institution
  • Strong communication and public speaking skill. Fluent in English (written, verbal and interpersonal); knowledge of Cantonese is an asset;
  • A team player with strong relational skills; connect well with parents and children
  • Ability to embrace change, demonstrate adaptability without compromising Biblical principles, and eagerness to learn and seek improvement opportunities.
