Reflections on India Trip
Hans’ visit to India in January was a blessing to him and to the students and staff at the schools run by two churches.
“What a privilege to be able to visit the Ling Liang Church and School in Kolkata with Pastor Dick Kaan a couple of months ago. I spoke at the daily chapel to over 800 students (Muslim and Hindu background) and over 100 teachers, I was touched by their interest in knowing Jesus. Pastor KT set up an outreach program to the slum communities nearby more than 5 years ago and is currently reaching over 30 families and 100 children and youth. The impact of bringing up the children from the slum is greater than what we expected, their knowledge of JC will impact the slum community to reach their own. I was encouraged by the many workers who are reaching out to the poorest of the poor. Thank you for your prayer as we wait and seek His guidance on the future partnership with this project.” (Hans’ reflection)
February was a busy month. Feb 13-16 we met a prayer team from Edmonton, Alta. in Kazakhstan so they could see and experience the country, culture and school first hand. What a joy to show them our ‘world’ and to have them partner with us before the Father’s throne as they faithfully intercede for our region each week. Then from Feb 16 -19 we, along with our prayer partners, attended an Interwoven Conference outside of Athens, Greece. What an encouragement to join our colleagues from both the Silk and Sand regions to hear what God is doing in Canada as well as these two regions. The God-stories we heard confirm to us that God is at work in His redemptive work through prayer, partnerships, people, presence and proclamation. Our hearts were filled with praise, awe and encouragement. Then from Feb 21-24, international workers attended a Soul Care conference at the same venue. God is doing a deep work as our spirits have been totally redeemed but the messiness of our souls here on earth are being transformed. God continues to show us areas in our lives where He wants full access to change us to be more like Jesus.
We praise God for opportunities to speak in churches, meet with individuals and groups and most of all to see former students. What a joy to see alumni who have now become friends. After we spoke at the Hamilton Chinese Alliance Church, we were able to see the 3 Kuranji sisters who were students at Black Forest Academy where we served from 1998-2014. It was so special to meet their spouses and their children even though our time was short but so sweet.
Praise & Prayer Requests
We think we have a way to acquire visas for new teammates who will be joining us in KZ this summer (a family with 3 young children, and a single young lady). Pray that the process will be smooth and they will be able to get the status they need in order to live, learn and love the people in Kazakhstan.
Pray that God will provide the teachers we need for the next school year: elementary classroom teacher, secondary Math, history, English language arts, science, ICT, drama, and special education. We are in the last quarter of the school year and many positions are still not filled.
Pray for the next months of transition as we wrap up our speaking in Quebec, spend time with extended family, move back to Calgary in June, pack, see family and plan to move back to Kazakhstan Aug. 1. Please pray especially for the next steps for Evan as he anticipates finishing his university studies this spring.
